Isack Hadjar will not return to the cockpit of his Red Bull for the Spanish Grand Prix, Red Bull has confirmed.

Liam Lawson will therefore partner Max Verstappen in the RB22s at F1’s first visit to the Madring.

Racing Bulls, in turn, has announced that Yuki Tsunoda will continue alongside Arvid Lindblad for a third successive grand prix.

As is well established by this stage, Hadjar fractured his wrist training during the summer break, and initially was ruled out of the Dutch Grand Prix.

The injury did not heal sufficiently for the subsequent round, last weekend’s Italian Grand Prix, so the joint teams retained their altered pairings.

It was, however, widely expected that the inaugural trip to Madrid would also come too soon for the French driver, which has now been confirmed.

In a statement, Red Bull said: “After racing for the team in Zandvoort and Monza, Liam will continue to drive alongside Max at this week’s Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid.

“The decision has been taken as Isack’s recovery continues to progress positively. While he is not yet ready to return to the cockpit, he will be in Madrid supporting the team.

“Everyone at Red Bull Racing looks forward to welcoming Isack back behind the wheel very soon.”

How have Lawson and Tsunoda fared?

Lawson enjoyed a strong round at Zandvoort, qualifying eighth and finishing seventh as the sole remaining Red Bull after Max Verstappen’s first-lap crash.

However, he endured a tougher time of things at Monza. Having taken a grid penalty to expand Hadjar’s pool of power unit components, the New Zealander struggled to work his way through the field and sustained damage to his front wing whilst battling with Nico Hulkenberg, leaving him to finish outside the points in P14.

Tsunoda, on the other hand, narrowly missed out on points at the Dutch Grand Prix, finishing just ahead of Lindblad in P11.

He went one better at the Temple of Speed, securing a tenth-place finish and a point for Racing Bulls.

Although his result is under threat, as Audi has lodged its intention to appeal the stewards’ decision not to punish the Japanese driver for a start infringement, which could still alter the final classification of the Italian Grand Prix.
