This five-bedroom house at 9 Edgewater Drive, Clifton Springs was one of the first built on that stretch of foreshore.

A blingy ‘Vegas bathroom’ direct from the 1970s winds back the clock at a renovated waterfront home that celebrates the era’s distinctive interior style.

Finding some old kitchen tiles in the shed helped in the vendors’ quest to hero another original feature at their Clifton Springs digs.

The retiled island bench topped with an existing copper rangehood is now the centrepiece of 9 Edgewater Drive’s sympathetically updated kitchen.

The house has uninterrupted views over Corio Bay.

This original ensuite is one of three bathrooms at the house.

The vendor said she wasn’t tempted to update the ensuite bathroom as she loved its in-your-face style from the get-go.

“It’s an absolute knockout, we call it the Vegas bathroom and it’s just Laminex but it’s so extravagant and optimistic,” she said.

“I was really attracted to those parts of the house, the burnt orange colours and the khaki handbasins.”

Other retro features that lived to see another day at the five-bedroom house overlooking Corio Bay include a spiral staircase, Spanish-inspired arched doorways and timber-lined walls.

The cream carpets, however, had to go, replaced with hardwood floors in the front lounge and dining room facing the water.

She said she and her husband had also added a pergola, crazy paving and landscaped the garden with native plants.

The vendors replaced the old electric cooktop with an induction version as part of the kitchen renovation.

The dining room retains original decorative pelmets.

She said they were initially captivated by the spectacular view across the bay to the You Yangs when they bought the house almost four years ago.

“The house was a bit of a clunker but the bones of it were really there. It belonged to the Kempe family and they built the house,” she said.

“They were one of the first buildings along the waterfront there and he was an engineer so it was very soundly built.

“There was a lot going on inside, a lot of bling and chandeliers, but it just felt like it had an energy.”

The bay is also in view from the front bedrooms upstairs.

The new pergola is the perfect spot to watch the world go by.

With the couple downsizing, they are selling the 792sq m property with $1.5m to $1.6m price hopes.

Fletchers, Queenscliff agent James Gladman is handling the expressions of interest campaign closing on September 10.

The vendor said the bayside location was a beautiful part of the world.

“The Spirit of Tasmania comes across all the time at night and there are really stunning sunsets, really special sunsets and it’s a real treat just to be able to see nature and weather come across the bay,” she said.
