It’s official – we’re getting a sequel to The Family Stone!
On Saturday (September 12), Searchlight Pictures announced on Instagram that a sequel to the beloved 2005 holiday movie is in the works. Thomas Bezucha, who wrote and directed the first movie, will be returning for the sequel, which is titled The Families Stone.
Here’s the logline for the sequel, per Variety:
“Twenty years after their mother’s passing, the Stone family reunites for Christmas only to face the season’s biggest surprise: their father has unexpectedly invited the woman he’s fallen in love with to meet the family.”
The majority of the cast will be returning for the sequel, which doesn’t have a release date.
Absent, of course, is the late Diane Keaton, who starred as family matriarch Sybil Stone. The Oscar-winning actress passed away at the age of 79 after battling pneumonia in October 2025.
