The Cape Coral Police Department said a man was injured after being shot by police on Wednesday.
According to police Chief Anthony Sizemore at a news conference, there was a disturbance reported at a home on Northeast 10th Terrace.
A caller said a man reportedly had a knife and a handgun at the door and kicked the door down. Family members called in, and the man was reportedly an unwelcome family member.
The man then left the home, and officers responded.
The man was reportedly hiding behind a dumpster at City Mattress, where he is accused of coming out and pointing a handgun at law enforcement, according to the chief. Two officers shot the man, who was identified as Daniel Eric Colon, 43.
Officers say they immediately administered first aid, and that Colon was in surgery by the time of the news conference.
There were no injuries to any law enforcement, and the two officers were put on administrative leave as standard procedure.

This was also in the area of Northeast 15th Place and Northeast 9th Street.
Officers were seen talking to neighbors, and a forensics unit was also at the scene.
Neighbors and business owners told Gulf Coast News that they were confused about what happened.
