Savita Punia wants PeeCee to play her if there’s a biopic
Indian hockey goalkeeper Savita Punia wants Priyanka Chopra Jonas to portray her if a biographical film is ever made about her life. “I never thought of a movie being made on me. But if one is made, Priyanka Chopra is my favourite, and I think she would be able to do justice to the role,” Punia told PTI. Known as the ‘Wall of Indian hockey’, the player is India’s most-capped woman hockey player, with 326 international appearances. She recently helped India win gold at the Asian Games and qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Punia said Chopra Jonas’ journey has been a source of inspiration.
Steven Soderbergh to help Matt Reeves finish Batman sequel
Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh will help complete the final weeks of shooting for The Batman Part II as director Matt Reeves attends to an ongoing family matter. Warner Bros and DC Studios confirmed that Soderbergh approached Reeves and offered his assistance, with both filmmakers working closely to preserve Reeves’ vision. Reeves also clarified on X that he was not leaving the Robert Pattinson-starrer. “I am profoundly grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this challenging time to help me finish principal photography,” he wrote. Soderbergh, known for Ocean’s Eleven and Traffic, will assist with the remaining shoot rather than replace Reeves as director.
Ryan Coogler X-Files reboot gets the nod and locks its agents
Ryan Coogler’s The X-Files reboot has received a series order from Hulu, with Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler set to lead the cast. The filmmaker wrote, directed, and executive produced the pilot, which Hulu picked up in February. The reboot follows two contrasting FBI agents assigned to investigate unexplained phenomena in a long-shuttered division. Unlike the original series, which starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, the new show will introduce different characters. Coogler said the team wanted to honour the original while finding its own approach to the story. Jennifer Yale will serve as showrunner.
Lena Dunham’s Girls to return with five new episodes
Lena Dunham’s Emmy-winning comedy Girls is returning with five new episodes, nearly a decade after its series finale. HBO confirmed that Dunham will reprise her role as Hannah Horvath alongside Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet and Andrew Rannells. Production is scheduled to begin in 2027. “We always said we would only return to GIRLS if there was a specific story we were burning to tell,” Dunham said. The revival will revisit the characters as they approach or navigate their 40s. The original series followed four young women dealing with relationships, careers and adulthood in New York.Agencies
