Reality Star Nick Uhlenhuth Clarifies Perception Pre-MAFS

Married at First Sight star Nick Uhlenhuth is aware of how it looks now that he’s signed up to appear on yet another reality show.

“I knew the perception some people would have, seeing a reality star join Married At First Sight,” Nick, 32, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, July 18, following the season 20 premiere. “I know there will be people who watch this and still think I wasn’t actually fully invested in the process. The wonderful thing is, you’re allowed to think whatever you want!”

Nick is among the Seattle singles searching for love on the hit Peacock series, where the panel of experts matched him with Courtney Landis. The duo met at the altar, saying “I do” just moments later.

Leading up to the wedding, Nick’s sincerity was questioned given his extensive reality TV history. (Nick has also appeared on Netflix’s The Circle, Perfect Match and Battle Camp.)

“I think that you’re probably going to work even harder to show that you’re here for the right reasons,” expert Paul C. Brunson told Nick ahead of his big day. “I believe you are.”

Nick also stressed his hopes to find The One, noting on Saturday that he tapped into a new emotional vulnerability for the show.

“These were such raw, emotional days leading up to the wedding,” he acknowledged in his Instagram message. “Was really amazing to see this side of me which hasn’t been portrayed in my other shows.”

While Nick has been unsuccessful in his previous reality TV debuts, he did invite his season 3 The Circle costars to his wedding. In addition, before Nick and Courtney, 28, even met, he sent her a sentimental present to commemorate the occasion.

“I gifted Courtney a travel bag for our honeymoon and a gold feather necklace to represent towels,” Nick wrote via his Instagram Stories on Saturday. “In my handwritten note, [owls are] describe[d] as an Uhlenhuth family thing. She walked up to the altar wearing the necklace.”

He added, “For some reason, they don’t air our gift exchanges — or me noticing the necklace at the altar.”

Courtney also sent Nick an unidentified gift, alongside a handwritten note.

“Hubby, this gift may seem a bit confusing LOL, but I am a bit of a sports and now pickleball junkie,” Nick read the letter in a Sunday, July 19, Instagram video. “I found out I had a match (you) as I was playing pickleball. I’m excited because I think this is something we can do together. … And [it] ends with, ‘Xoxo, Wifey.’ I kept the note.”

New episodes of Married at First Sight air Thursdays on Peacock.
