The existing-home sales report for July from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) has good news and bad news. The good news is that existing-home sales grew 1.3% month over month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 3.95 million, breaking a four-month streak of declines. The bad news is they’re still down 2.5% compared to July 2023. High mortgage rates and historically low inventory continue to push home prices higher, with the median price rising 4.2% year over year to $422,600. Closed sales of previously owned homes rose 1.3% in July compared with June to a seasonally adjusted, annualized rate of 3.95 million units, according to the National Association of Realtors.
