Karwai Tang/WireImage Michelle Yeoh felt like “such a failure” for not having children. The Oscar winner, 62, revealed on the Monday, November 18, episode of the U.K. BBC Radio 4 show Woman’s Hour that she always wanted to start a family and underwent fertility treatment during her marriage to her first husband, Dickson Poon. The single-family home construction industry might be headed for a slowdown. Data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that single-family building permits dropped 7.7% year over year in October, hitting a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.416 million units. Housing starts didn’t fare much better, dropping 4% from one year ago. While single-family housing completions were up 16.8% year over year, the data for starts and permits suggests there are relatively few units coming online in the coming months. “Builders continue to face headwinds, including high construction costs and skilled labor shortages,” Odeta Kushi, deputy chief economist at First American,…

Hong Kong democracy activists jailed: Who are they, what’s the case about? | Hong Kong Protests News
A Hong Kong Court sentenced 45 pro-democracy activists to jail terms of up to 10 years on Tuesday, in the first-ever mass sentencing since Beijing imposed a controversial national security law on the semi-autonomous Chinese city. The activists were among 47 people arrested in 2021 for organising unofficial primary elections to choose pro-democracy legislative candidates. Authorities alleged the action violated the sweeping Beijing security law first introduced in 2020. In what’s being called the largest national security case in Hong Kong, prosecutors accused the defendants of plotting to “overthrow” the government by forcing the city’s leader to resign. Two people…
It seems inconceivable that Steve Harvey would ever retire from his gig as host of Family Feud. Yet, if reports are to be believed, if he doesn’t rein in his behavior with contestants, he might seem himself pushed out the door, whether he likes it or not. While Steve’s hosting style has always been outlandish, producers are supposedly “concerned” that his behavior is crossing lines that even his charm can’t come back from. The Bipartisan Congressional Real Estate Caucus is calling on the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) to cease its pilot program for title insurance waivers until the program is vetted and the agency seeks public input on it. The caucus expressed this view in a letter written by Reps. Lou Correa (D-Calif.), Mark Alford (R-Mo.), Tracey Mann (R-Kan.) and Brittany Pettersen (D-Colo.) and sent to FHFA Director Sandra Thompson on Monday. In an era of obvious political division, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have expressed concerns over the program. The National Council of Insurance Legislators and 14 attorneys general…
