Since 2019, the state of Florida has built more than 77,000 new properties in areas with a high risk of flooding. This is the most among all states, according to an analysis by climate-modeling firm First Street Foundation on behalf of the The Wall Street Journal. The construction activity is likely to place the housing industry and its financing partners on a “collision course” with insurers, the outlet said. According to Morningstar DBRS, the cost of recovery from hurricanes Helene and Milton — storms that battered the Southeast in recent weeks — is expected to be between $40 billion and…
I’m proud to call the tiny sugarcane farming community of Ingham, Australia, my hometown. It boasts blue skies, sandy beaches and Australia’s longest single-drop waterfall. But its location — at the northern end of the state of Queensland — is a problem for me.Lured by the desire to explore Europe, I left for London 17 years ago, on a two-year working holiday visa. I had no idea that a handsome English stranger I met in a bar one evening would be my future husband. It’s the reason that I am now a permanent resident of the United Kingdom, raising two young…
Victims of Brazil’s worst environmental disaster have turned to a United Kingdom court for compensation, almost nine years after tonnes of toxic mining waste poured into a major waterway, killing 19 people and devastating local communities. The class action lawsuit at the High Court of Justice in London on Monday seeks an estimated 36 billion pounds ($47bn) in damages from the global mining giant BHP. That would make it the largest environmental payout ever, according to Pogust Goodhead, the law firm representing the plaintiffs. BHP owns 50 percent of Samarco, the Brazilian company that operates the iron ore mine where…

The important thing to watch for with the new listings is when we transition from this era of very few sellers to one with a more historically normal level of sellers. There are 60,000 to 70,000 new listings each week now, when in the pre-pandemic times there would have been 80,000 sellers per week. There is no evidence of seller supply increasing significantly. The trend has been slow incremental growth all year. There’s no sign of that trend changing. New listings per metro But I was curious. Are there any local markets where we can see homeowners, or investors, or…

Donald Trump is remembering Arnold Palmer for something other than golf or a refreshing beverage … his huge penis. The presidential candidate couldn’t stop talking about Arnold’s manhood over the weekend during a campaign rally in Palmer’s hometown of Latrobe, PA … claiming the golf legend was hung like a horse. Play video content TMZ.com So naturally, we talked about it today on “TMZ on TV” … and Trump’s story about Arnold in the shower came as news to all of us. Of course, not everyone is buying it … but we’re guessing Arnold wouldn’t object to Trump’s penis praise.…
Another regulator has sued Rocket Mortgage for allegedly discriminating against a Black homeowner by undervaluing her home during an appraisal in Colorado three years ago. And the Detroit-based lender believes it’s a “massive overreach.” On Monday, the U.S. Department of Justice—following a move made by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in July—filed a lawsuit against the lender, appraiser Maksym Mykhailyna and his company, Maverick Appraisal Group, and the appraisal management company Solidifi U.S. Inc..
