BBCNihon Hidankyo, a Japanese group of atomic bomb survivors, has won the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize.
Nobel Committee Chair Berit Reiss-Andersen praised the “extraordinary efforts” of the organisation whose campaign has “contributed greatly to the establishment of the nuclear taboo”.
The winner was announced at a ceremony in Oslo on Friday, where Mr Reiss-Andersen warned: “This taboo against the use of nuclear weapons is under pressure.”
The Norwegian Nobel Committee praised the group’s use of witness testimony to ensure nuclear weapons must never be used again.
